What is ABA Therapy?
This article, from Behavioral Today, provides a brief overview of ABA and the principles that guide it. In short, ABA uses the science of behavior to analyze and systematically adjust the environmental events surrounding a behavior to teach new skills and reduce interfering behavior in a socially significant way. It relies on frequent data collection and analysis to make informed decisions about a treatment plan's effectiveness. Domains that can be targeted include:
Adaptive Skills
Language & Communication
Play & Social Skills
Motor Skills
Cognition and Awareness
Academic and Learning Skills
Challenging, Unsafe, or Interfering Behavior

What can services entail?
Comprehensive Program
Learners with multiple areas of need or with complex behavior patterns typically require more significant programming. This tends to include multiple goals in a variety of domains and can require up to 20 hours of therapy per week.
Targeted Intervention
Learners with a few distinct skill deficits will likely benefit from a more specific intervention that focuses on only 1-2 domains of functioning or specific routines. These programs are far less intense in duration of sessions and length of therapy.
